Thirteen Year 9 pupils, accompanied by two Year 10 students, Miss Habib (who organised the trip), Miss Ashman and Miss Hammond, travelled to the Destinations Travel Show at London’s Earl’s Court.  Leigh Travel Club kindly donated free tickets for everyone.

They took part in a team challenge as part of the Geography Department’s Gifted and Talented programme.  Their job was to visit stands to collect resources for, and prepare, a travel brief for a fictitious client.  The initiative and creativity shown was first-rate and it was hard to choose a winning team.

In third place were Team Asia, whose cover was vibrant, whose invitation to their client was persuasive and convincing and whose itinerary (encompassing Russia, China and South Korea) was ambitious.

In second place were Team Latin America, who temporarily relocated the Czech Republic to Central America (!) before coming up with an informative pitch for the clients to holiday in Belize and Costa Rica.

The winners were Team Africa, who concentrated on Egypt, providing a jigsaw puzzle, free keyrings and a realistic brochure about the attractions of this popular country.  They demonstrated superb research and production skills and managed to acquire the most freebies thanks to the ability of the whole team to model Vietnamese hats and persuade companies to part with their goods.  Alex now has enough pens to see him through what we hope will be an illustrious university career!

The winners each receive an Insight Guide to London which we hope will inspire them to explore our capital city.
